(Jackson , TN) Clark and Juanita Shaw of Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store in Jackson, Tennessee recently attended the Southeast Culinary Tourism Symposium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was sponsored by the International Culinary Tourism Association founded by Erik Wolf. Culinary tourism is the pursuit of unique dining and beverage experiences. It is one of the most popular niche markets in world tourism today.
The meeting was the first culinary tourism symposium held in the Southeast and key speakers included ICTA president and CEO Erik Wolf, Dickie Brennan and Chef John Folse. During the meeting, Clark and Juanita Shaw were asked to serve as liaison between ICTA, the state of Tennessee and regional industry leaders to continue the promotion of culinary tourism.
Clark Shaw said, "This one of the most exciting opportunities for tourism in Tennessee in many years. It's been said that food is the common denominator that brings people together. Tennessee has an incredible food story and by simply taking the things we've got and packaging them and getting the word out to the public it will be a win-win for everyone involved. Our state's unique and memorable dining experiences offers visitors a taste of Tennessee food heritage that appeals to every traveler and pocketbook."
The International Culinary Tourism Association (ICTA) was founded in 2003 and provides a wide range of benefits for its membership. Today, ICTA maintains operations in the United States , the United Kingdom, China and New Zealand.
It is a non-profit trade organization comprised of professionals who represent the world's food, beverage and travel industries. Member businesses include associations, destination marketing organizations, chambers of commerce, lodging properties, attractions, tour operators, special events, food/drink service establishments, food growers, food/beverage manufacturers and individuals. The ICTA website has a wealth of information on its website at www.culinarytourism.org .
